Name: Linda Betzel Job/title: Billing Administrator Number of years employed by Goetze’s: 11.5 years What positions have you worked during your time at Goetze’s: I have been Goetze’s billing admin since I started Caramel Creams or Cow Tales – if you had to pick one, which would it be and why? Caramel Creams! I prefer the increased ratio of caramel and cream compared to Cow Tales. Do you have any memories with our products growing up? I used to buy the Caramel Creams tray packs as a kid at the corner store by my house. I was always so excited to pick one up! How do you eat your Caramel Creams? (eg: center first, all in one bite) All in one bite! Although, as a child I would push the cream center out with my tongue and eat that before the caramel. Favorite Goetze’s flavor? My top three favorites are 1) Caramel Apple, 2) Original Caramel and 3) Oreo! Any special recipes using our product that you can share? I’m sorry to say I personally do not have any, but I certainly enjoy when co-workers bring theirs in to share 😊 Dream Caramel Creams/ Cow Tales flavor or partnership: Orange Creamsicle! My manager is probably sick of me telling him to create this flavor…every change I get. If you could describe your experience at Goetze’s in one word, what would it be? Family Most memorable moment at work: I do not have a favorite per say, but I do enjoy our Christmas parties where we get to celebrate our fellow co-workers accomplishments. What makes being part of Goetze’s Candy special that you have chosen a career here? It’s a childhood favorite! I like the fact that the owners, and other employees made me feel welcome from the first day I arrived. The way we work as a team is like no other place where I have been employed. A lot of my co-workers are not just people I work with, they have turned out to be great friends. What does it mean to you to be a part of the team? I love how we interact to solve problems and come up with new ideas and ways to improve our workflow. Is there a quote that you live by that has helped you grow in your career? This month we are highlighting mother and son duo, Amber and Gabe! Amber has worked with Goetze’s for 15 years! She started in our accounts payable department and worked her way up to Sr. Admin for HR and Payroll/Finance. Gabe joined Goetze’s in 2021, 13 years after his mother started. He began working in the kitchen and with his display of hard work, was promoted to one of our wonderful Kettle Leaders within that time!
Name: Amber Jewell Job/title: Sr. Sr. Administrator of Finance, Payroll, HR Number of years employed by Goetze’s: 15 What positions have you worked during your time at Goetze’s: I started working in the accounts payable department working with our CFO. This led to my involvement in assisting with inventory and the procurement of our product’s raw materials. While I have maintained these duties, I have taken on the responsibility of Goetze’s payroll while continuing to support our CFO with daily operations as the Sr. Admin of Finance. Caramel Creams or Cow Tales – if you had to pick one, which would it be and why? Caramel Creams! Do you have any memories with our products growing up? Nothing comes to mind, I wasn’t really familiar with the product until I started at Goetze’s. How do you eat your Caramel Creams? (eg: center first, all in one bite) Split in half! So I can get the best caramel and cream ratio in each bite, plus it makes each piece last longer! Favorite Goetze’s flavor? Caramel Apple, I am happy we are finally bringing it back year-round again. Dream Caramel Creams/ Cow Tales flavor or partnership: I would love to have a peanut butter flavor option! However, we are a nut-free facility so I know we wont be producing that anytime soon. If you could describe your experience at Goetze’s in one word, what would it be? Unique – In the best way possible! Most memorable moment at work: I have many enjoyable memories at Goetze’s but my favorite has to be our annual holiday parties to close out the year. I love seeing everyone come together to celebrate. What makes being part of Goetze’s Candy special that you have chosen a career here? The opportunities I have been given to grow both professionally and personally during my time at Goetze’s. What does it mean to you to be a part of the team? Working together to achieve a common goal, even if everyone has a different prospective on the path to get there. Name: Gabriel Shiflett Job/title: Kettle Leader Number of years employed by Goetze’s: 2 What positions have you worked during your time at Goetze’s: I started in the kitchen and worked my way to Kettle Leader. How do you eat your Caramel Creams? (eg: center first, all in one bite) In one bite! They’re easy to pop in your mouth and enjoy. Favorite Goetze’s flavor? Strawberry Smoothie Any special recipes using our product that you can share? I came up with a cool caramel candy vodka, it’s pretty good if I do say so myself. Dream Caramel Creams/ Cow Tales flavor or partnership: A caramel and chocolate flavor variation since I’m a big fan of Reese’s. If you could describe your experience at Goetze’s in one word, what would it be? Eye-Opening Most memorable moment at work: Working with my team in the kitchen. I will never forget when our kitchen manager turned bloodshot red because he was upset. What makes being part of Goetze’s Candy special that you have chosen a career here? I see Goetze’s as a company I can grow at and have the opportunity to learn many different trades. What does it mean to you to be a part of the team? Working together rather than individually. Cow Tales, I enjoy their shape and they are good for on the go. Do you have any memories with our products growing up? Unfortunately, no. I grew up in Germany so I didn’t have access to them. How do you eat your Caramel Creams? (eg: center first, all in one bite) All in one bite! Favorite Goetze’s flavor? Caramel Brownie If you could describe your experience at Goetze’s in one word, what would it be? Pleasant Most memorable moment at work: Working with so many generations of the Goetze Family (Generations 3-6). It’s great to see the evolution of the business and to have the opportunity to pass down my knowledge from generation to generation. What does it mean to you to be a part of the team? It’s exciting! Specifically working on new projects all the time! Is there a quote that you live by that has helped you grow in your career? One thing at a time so you can do it right the first time! He was the first of the 6th generation to work with the company full time. Over the last (almost) decade, he has worked in the kitchen, as a machine mechanic, in our shipping and warehouse department and is currently our Building Manager!
Name: Spaulding Goetze III Job/title: Building Manager Number of years employed by Goetze’s: 9.5 years Caramel Creams® or Cow Tales® – if you had to pick one, which would it be and why? I would pick Cow Tales®, especially the minis! They are the perfect size to hit that sweet spot and are so good fresh off the line. Do you have any memories with our products growing up? As a sixth generation Goetze, I have many memories of the candy from childhood. I can remember coming into the factory for the first time and seeing all the amazing machinery running the candy, as a child it all seemed so big! I also remember the wonderful smell of the candy cooking in the kitchen, the same smell that I get to enjoy every day now and it never fails to bring me back to my childhood! How do you eat your Caramel Creams®? (eg: center first, all in one bite) I prefer to eat it all at once but make it a two bite treat! I love the combination of the cream and caramel together but taking two bites allows me to enjoy it longer. Favorite Goetze’s flavor? My favorite flavor is Strawberry Smoothie Cow Tales®! I know this flavor can be hit or miss for some people, but I always get excited when we run it. Plus, it comes in the mini size which I enjoy! Dream Caramel Creams®/ Cow Tales® flavor or partnership: I really enjoy crabs so I think it would be interesting to try an Old Bay flavored Cow Tale®. If you could describe your experience at Goetze’s in one word, what would it be? Exciting! Most memorable moment at work: It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite memory because I create them every day. One that really sticks out is when I had the opportunity to look at machinery overseas in Dusseldorf, Germany! It was great to be a part of the advancement for new wrapping technology. What does it mean to you to be a part of the team? Supporting others to help them grow, while also working to grow the company. Sadie, the owner of Say Delicious, created special Caramel Creams® donuts for Father's Day to enjoy donuts with Dad and we are pleased to have the opportunity to share her special story about her father.
Sadie's Dad has been in her life since she was 5 when he adopted her and the two have been extremely close ever since. Sadie's parents have always supported her from cheer team captain in high school to signing her name on the dotted line to join the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, Sadie and her Mom decided to follow their dreams and open a bakery to sell Sadie’s famous cookies. It was her parents’ idea to bring the donuts on board. When Sadie was a kid, her Dad introduced her to a small donut shop in his hometown of East Hampton, New York, called Dreesen’s Donuts. They fell in love with them, and it has always been a childhood memory of Sadie's to get warm, fresh donuts everytime they would visit. Sadie's favorite summer memories always involved donuts and the beach. Later, they discovered her Dad went to high school with the new owner of Dreesen’s Donuts, and they discussed bringing his famous donuts to Maryland. The owner agreed and the rest is history! Sadie's Dad is now retired and works full-time as a volunteer for Say Delicious as the "Donut Guy.” He is also affectionately known around the shop as Father Donut, Donut Master, but most importantly, Sadie's Dad. OREO Dream Caramel Creams/ Cow Tales flavor or partnership: Chocolate Almond is my dream flavor but we are a nut-free facility, so I don’t think we will be making that anytime soon! Most memorable moment at work: I often think about when I worked in the kitchen, which is where I started at Goetze’s. I always enjoyed the process of cooking the candy and made a lot of great friends. What does it mean to you to be a part of the team? Being a part of the team means everything.
